Haldor – Create Assignment

  • Updated
  1. Click on Assignments in the left menu.

  2. Click on Create New Assignment.

  3. Select the group(s) for which you want to create an assignment. If you select multiple groups, an assignment will be created for each group.

  4. If you want the assignment to also be assigned to new students added to the group later, check this option.

Note: For new students to automatically be assigned the task, you must assign it to all current students in the selected groups.

  1. Set the status of the assignment:

    • Open: The assignment will be available to students, and they can work on it.
    • Hidden: The assignment is created but hidden from students—you must edit the assignment and change its status for it to be visible to students or guardians. Students cannot work on a hidden assignment (you must make it open first, but you can then hide it again). Assessments in a hidden assignment are not visible to students or guardians unless published.
    • Locked: The assignment is created. Students will have access to the instructions but cannot work on the assignment or access their files. You must edit the assignment and change the status to Open when you want students to work on it.
  2. Choose the type of assignment.

  3. If desired, link the assignment to a Plan. The assignment will then appear in the plan, and any goals and assessment criteria in the plan will be included in the assignment.

  4. Fill in the following fields:

    • Title of the assignment.
    • Description of what students are expected to do in the assignment (assignment instructions).
  5. Insert images into the text field.
Follow the steps in this link to embed images:
[Resize an Image in Assignment, Plan, and Post].

  6. Specify:

    • Start and end dates, start and end times.
This controls how the assignment is displayed to students. Students will see assignments in one of three categories: "Ongoing," "Upcoming," or "Past Deadline."
    • Select lesson – link the assignment to a teaching session. The assignment will then appear in the schedule. If "Select Lesson" is not displayed, it may be because your school/municipality does not have the Schedule+ module.
    • Publication Date – specify when the assignment will become visible to students. If "Publication Date" is not displayed, it may be because your school/municipality does not have the Schedule+ module.
  7. Under Assessment, you can add additional evaluations to your assignment. If you do not want to include an assessment, you can skip this step. You will always be able to provide feedback to a student, regardless of whether you add learning goals or assessment criteria. This guide covers creating assessments for teachers.

  1. Create Assessment
  • + Add Goals: Here, you can create a custom matrix based on your own goals (to link custom goals to a subject, follow the instructions further down).
  • + Add Assessment Criteria: Add assessment or grading criteria available from the Directorate for Education and Training.

You can choose to include both custom goals and assessment criteria, only custom goals, or only assessment criteria from the Directorate.

This guide explains how to create both custom goals (steps 6–8 in this guide) and add assessment criteria (steps 10–12 in this guide).

  1. Click + Add Goals
    • In the Goal Description field, write a description of the goal. Here, you can specify what is expected of the student in the assignment.
    • + Add Steps: Add assessment steps to your goal. You can add as many steps as you want.
    • Add Step for Not Achieved: If this field is selected, a "Not Achieved" step is added to your matrix. You can rename "Not Achieved" to something else. This step is required to assess a student's knowledge as "Not Passed." If this step is missing, the student's knowledge will be rated as at least "Passed" in Haldor's assessment overviews.
  1. Choose what is visible and to whom by clicking the eyes.

    • A crossed-out eye next to a goal means that the goal will not be visible to the user group with the crossed-out eye.

    An open eye means:

    • Students:

      • The goal will be visible to the student when they access the assignment.
      • The assessment of the goal, as marked in the matrix, will be visible to the student.
      • When assessing a goal, you can provide written feedback. This feedback is always visible to the student, even if the eye is crossed out.
      • Note: Feedback fields are not shown in this guide. See the guide on assessments for more information.
    • Guardians:

      • The goal will be visible to guardians when they access the assignment.
      • The assessment of the goal, as marked in the matrix, will be visible to guardians.
      • When assessing a goal, you can provide written feedback. If you want guardians to see this feedback, ensure the bottom eye "Show Feedback to Guardians" is open.
      • Note: Feedback fields are not shown in this guide. See the guide on assessments for more information.

A crossed-out eye means that the goal or assessment will not be visible to the selected user group.

  1. To link your goal to a subject, complete steps 15–17 in this guide. Otherwise, your goal and any assessments will not be grouped with other assessments conducted in the subject.

  1. If you want to create more custom goals, click on + Add Teacher Assessment and repeat steps 11 and 12 in this guide.

  2. Click on + Add Assessment Criteria to add assessment or grading criteria available from the Directorate for Education and Training. In the example below, a custom goal has been created. When assessment criteria are added in this case, the goal will be linked to the subject/course(s) selected. If you do not want your goal to be linked to a subject/course, choose Add Teacher Assessment instead.

  3. You must now select the subject/course from which you want to fetch assessment criteria. The Group’s Subject/Courses list will appear first. Here, you will find all subjects and courses added to your group. If your subject/course is missing, you can search for it using Search Subject/Course.

  • If your subject/course is listed under Group’s Subject/Courses, select it and click on Add at the bottom of the list.
  • If your subject/course is missing:
    • Click on Search Subject/Course.
    • Search for your subject/course and press Enter to complete the search.
    • If the search yields many results, filter by school type or level.
    • Select your subject/course.
    • Decide whether you want to add the subject/course to your group. This is recommended if you plan to use the same subject/course multiple times.
    • Click on Add.
  1. Your subject/course will now be added, and you can select the assessment or grading criteria you want to use in the assignment. You are not required to select assessment/grading criteria and can skip marking these if you do not want to use them in your evaluation but still want to link your custom goals to a subject.
  • Above each assessment/grading criterion, there is a checkbox. If you check this box, all sentences within the selected criterion will be marked.
  • If you only want one sentence within a criterion, check the box next to the specific sentence.

Note: For grades 1–3, certain subjects lack assessment criteria for grade 3 (from the Directorate for Education and Training). However, purpose and key content for grade 3 are available. To create a matrix with assessment criteria for evaluating knowledge, you must also add "subjectXX_4-6" to display these.

  1. Choose what is visible and for whom by clicking the eyes.

    • A crossed-out eye next to an assessment/grading criterion means that it will not be visible to the user group with the crossed-out eye.

    An open eye means:

    • Students:

      • Criteria will be visible to the student when they access the assignment.
      • The assessment of the criteria, as marked in the matrix, will be visible to the student.
      • When assessing the criteria, you can provide written feedback. This feedback is always visible to the student, even if the eye is crossed out.
      • Note: Feedback fields are not shown in this guide. See the guide on assessments for more information.
    • Guardians:

      • Criteria will be visible to guardians when they access the assignment.
      • The assessment of the criteria, as marked in the matrix, will be visible to guardians.
      • When assessing the criteria, you can provide written feedback. If you want guardians to see this feedback, ensure the bottom eye "Show Feedback to Guardians" is open.
      • Note: Feedback fields are not shown in this guide. See the guide on assessments for more information.

A crossed-out eye means that the criteria or assessment will not be visible to the selected user group.

  1. If you want to add more subjects/courses, click on:
    • + Add Assessment Criteria – to add more subjects/courses in the existing assessment module.
    • Add Teacher Assessment – to add a new assessment module. You will also have the option to create additional goals.
  1. You will now be directed to OneDrive. You must have your files stored in OneDrive to attach them to the assignment.
  • Select the files you want to attach to the assignment.
  • Click on Select after choosing the files, and they will be added to the assignment.
  1. Select the files you want to attach and click Select.

  2. Choose the file types:

    • Instruction – the file will be added as a downloadable document for students.
    • Template Document – the file will be added to the students' workspace. Each student will receive a copy of this document, where they will write their assignment submission.

Note: Once you have added and saved a template document, you cannot remove or change it (this also applies in draft mode).

  1. Under Additional Customizations, any accommodations for students in the group for which the assignment was created will be displayed.
  1. Complete the form by selecting one of the following options:
    • Publish – The assignment will be published for your students. If you selected a later publication date, the assignment will be published on the chosen date.
    • Save Draft – The assignment is only visible to the owners of the teaching group.
    • Cancel – None of the changes you made will be saved.
  1. Once the assignment is created and published, it will appear on the students' dashboard. A slot for the assignment will also be created in the schedule on the assignment's submission date.
